Fall Skin Care Products

Hi there! Thank you so much for checking out my blog. Your support is greatly appreciated and believe me I do not take it for granted. This post does contain product that I’ve received for free but it does not change how I feel about them. All opinions expressed are simply and honestly my own.

When it comes to body care, the weather change may cause our skin to change drastically. The older we get more changes we notice and the more care we must take. I know with all the information that’s out there, it can be hard to find the right body care products.

Personally, my skin is in love with moisture, hydration and…did I mention moisture? It is the only thing that can satisfy my stressed, damaged and simply overdramatic skin. This is why I look for products with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, shea butter and jojoba oil. All of these ingredients not only moisturize my skin but reinforce my skin barrier so that it can remain soft and healthy.

In my latest vlog, I mention my top 3 favourite body care products for Fall of 2020. I mention a fan favourite, a new found favourite and one that is from a Canadian Black Woman owned business.

Just because we aren’t heading outside doesn’t mean that our skin isn’t susceptible to the dry air in homes. This is mostly due to heater being on.

By all means check it out and let me know if your favourite made the list.

Why Johnsons Cottontouch Baby Lotion Is My Bedtime Secret Weapon

Hi there! Thank you so much for checking out my blog today. I really appreciate your support and believe me, I am really grateful you took the time out to read this blog. Some of the products displayed on this blog have been gifted to me and this post may contain affiliate. If you choose to buy from these links you won’t pay extra, you fact you may even save money. I’ll get a commission which will keep this blog going. However, all opinions expressed are completely my own.

By now you’ve heard of the Johnson’s Cottontouch baby lotion which was a part of their massive rebranding launch back in 2018. If you’re a mother to a baby or a toddler, then I’m sure you’ve heard of this lotion unless you’ve been living under a rock. This lotion is designed and formulated with newborns in mind. This is great for their sensitive skin. This newborn face and body lotion is extremely light, has a very thin consistency, almost milk-like. It absorbs extremely quickly into the skin and provides 24 hours worth of moisture.

The whole idea behind Cottontouch is that from the moment they are born, you can from that connection with your new babythrough touch. Touch is so important as it is one of the most powerful way to form that bond.

However I didn’t realize how much I would love this lotion for not just my baby but for both of my girls. Aside from the fast absorption and it’s ability to provide moisture without causing my girls’ skin to have a reaction, the fragrance is what makes this lotion so worthwhile. It’s also the reason why a year later after the birth of my baby, I am still using this lotion on her.

The lotion smells like cotton and it is so soothing. When I get my girls ready for bed the most important thing is to avoid anything that can stimulate them. I’m trying to avoid stimulation because by the time bedtime rolls around this mama is tired. I need to wind down myself.

Since the first time I’ve used this on my girls, the smells instantly lifts my mood. It’s therapeutic in a way. I apply it to their body and I see them smile because we’re usually talking about the day and I’m doing a silly face. It is a part of our bedtime routine.

I love that it doesn’t leave my hands sticky or heavy. It doesn’t matter how many pumps for lotion I use my baby’s skin is soft and moisturized and so is my hands. It’s perfect all season long.

Is there a bedtime staple that you can’t go without? Let me know in the comments.

Five Ways To Put Your Best Face Forward

Hi there! Thank you so much for checking out my blog. Just to let you know I am not a dermatologist, esthetician nor am I, a skin care specialist. I am just a mom of who had problematic skin for the majority of my life and has now figured out a way to keep my skin looking pretty.

FYI, some of the products featured on this post have been gifted to me. However, all opinions are strictly my own.

Ever since, I entered puberty my face and I have been at war. Between the targeted acne commercial and the ill council of my elders I entered a battle I had no way of winning. I had oily skin, acne and nobody knew what to do to help. As I got older, I took control of my health and began to find inexpensive ways to restore on my chaotic skin.

Skin Care Regimen

First I needed a skin care regimen that actually would benefit my skin and my skin alone. Those I was living with, as a teenager, did not have the expertise to diagnose my skin. Also, it helps to be able to afford what goes on your skin.

Despite my oily skin, soaps were too harsh and the body creams were too heavy on my already battered skin. That’s when I started experimenting with different skin care lines until I found the right regimen for me.

It goes without saying that nothing beats having your body move, getting the blood pumping and the endorphins flowing. Did you know that exercise keeps your skin looking amazing? By exercising you are forcing your blood to carry oxygen  and nutrients everywhere in your body including your skin. According to webmd.com, exercise also is a great way to release stress. Stress has been known to cause unnecessary visitors to appear on the skin. Those unnecessary visitors are acne.

So if you needed another reason to start exercising, how about clear skin?

Healthy Eating

We’ve all heard about how junk food can negatively impact the health of our skin, turns out it’s not an old wive’s tales. There’s actually truth to it.

This is an affiliate link. If you choose to purchase these bars you won’t regret it. Use the promo code Sandy25 and save 25% on your purchase.

Healthline states that adding foods that are high in fatty acids you can help your body create collage which decreases the appearance of wrinkles. So go ahead and order that avocado on toast, your skin will thank you.

If you’re like me, you probably find yourself ordering out a lot, or snacking on chips and cookies more than you’d like to. So healthy eating may not be at the top of your list. To remedy that, I personally supplement with vitamins.

Lately, I’ve been indulging myself to the Neocell Beauty Bursts. They taste so good and they provide my body with collagen. A protein that is essential in the maintenance of my hair, skin and nails. Believe me, after birthing two babies I need all the help I can get.

Beauty sleep is an actual thing and we all need it. According to Healthline, lack of sleep causes an increase in cortisol. If cortisol sounds familiar it’s because it’s been in so many fat reducing supplement commercials, which I’m sure you’ve seen. Cortisol is a stress hormone and too much of it can cause acne. It can also break down the collagen and hyaluronic acid in the skin. Collagen and hyaluronic acid are our skin friends and without them, our skin loses it’s pretty.

Final Thoughts

Maybe your skin care remedy is just a tweak in your daily routine or your lifestyle. Beauty is deeper than skin, but that doesn’t mean you should disregard. Put your best face forward, you totally deserve it.

What’s been the one thing you’ve done that has changed your skin for the better?

My 3 Step Skin Care Routine

Hi there! Thank you so much for checking out my blog. In case you haven’t been here before, my name is Sandy Esprit. I am happily married and blessed to with two beautiful daughters. My life is super busy but I always do my best to address my skin. For your information this post is not sponsored and all opinions stated are strictly my own.

The Background Story

Ever since my second daughter was born I had to transition once more into the world of sleepless nights and early mornings all the while being a wife to my then two year old and still functioning as a human being. Stress has never been a friend to my skin, therefore the appearance of acne and dry skin was not welcomed on this pretty little canvas I’ve worked oh so very hard to maintain. This of course was coupled with the appearance of  puffy eyes. Puffy eyes I knew was a sleep deprivation problem but acne and dry skin was not going to be tolerated no matter how exhausted I was.

Within the past six months I’ve curated a three step skin care routine that I can do daily and that don’t take up a lot of time. Considering I have two little ones to get prepare in the morning, time is of the essence. It’s a simple routine that I practice day and night.

The Routine

Cleanser: La Roche Posay Effaclar Purifying Gel

This cleanser has been a staple in my skin care routine ever since I was in university. I was introduced to it by a coworker of mine. My skin problem back then was just acne. I didn’t know anything about skin type but I am so glad she introduced me to it. It cleared up my acne and brought balance to my skin pH. It’s cleanses the skin without stripping it completely. It’s free of alcohol, paraben, soap and dye. Even though my skin is no longer oily, I still swear by it.

Serum: Strivectin Peptight Tightening & Brightening Face Serum

This face serum is what I needed and I didn’t even know it. Based on the name you already know what it does. It tightens the skin and gives it a glow by brightening. I love this because it doesn’t bleach the skin. It’s great for anyone who has dull skin and you’re looking for your skin to have that healthy natural glow.

Moisturizer: La Roche Posay Toleriane Ultra Fluide

If you have sensitive skin and you need a moisturizer that not only provides moisture but allows your skin to retain moisture this is it. It is a very light moisturizer that works wonders on skin that’s been through it all. It doesn’t irritate the skin at all and it is soothing. It is free of preservative, paraben, fragrance, lanolin, alcohol and dye. It is worth every dollar.

A good skin care regimen is the basis for overall skin health. It’s nice to look in the mirror and not have to deal with flaws or imperfections. It also puts my mind at ease that I can get in and out of bathroom and trust that the products I use will work as they say.

What’s your skin care products do you swear by?

My Favourite Foundations of 2019

img_0128Hey there! Thanks for checking out my blog. Today I will be sharing my favourite foundations.

**Disclaimer: Some of the products have been gifted but all opinions expressed are mine.

Now it seems like the older I get, the more my skin changes. I used to be wiping oil off of my forehead, now my skin has finally balanced out. As a result, what I wear on my skin has also changed, including my foundation.

When it comes to my make-up I need it to be quick and easy to work with. I am a mother to two beautiful little girls who need me, like, all the time. I am a wife to a wonderful husband, who needs me… all the time. So I am sure you understand when I say, time is of essence. That’s why these make the cut.

That’s also why I bought them and have used them this year.

Maybelline SuperStay Long-Lasting Full Coverage liquid foundation in Warm Sun 334

Personally, I am a sucker for matte skin. I blame it on my problematic and somewhat traumatic teenage (and oily) skin experience when I was in high school.

So when Maybelline came out with their Superstay Long Lasting Full Coverage liquid foundation, I made sure to get it at my nearest drugstore. Not only did it provide a matte skin like finish but it lasted all day, despite the summer heat.

It covers all my imperfections. I don’t even have to wear concealer. This made my summer easier to deal with.

Now on the days when I wanted to have full coverage without the matte finish, I went with a classic.

The MAC Pro Longwear Foundation, has been one of the

MAC Pro Longwear Foundation in NW43

most reliable foundation that I’ve ever used. It doesn’t dry out my skin. It gives me medium to full coverage easily. It’s easy to apply AND it’s TRAVEL FRIENDLY.

There’s a literal lock feature on this bottle. It’s genius.

I also love that this product is a team player, meaning it doesn’t act weird with different primers. It does the job and last a while without needing to retouch it. Not that I ever retouch my makeup but just in case I needed to, I wouldn’t have to.

Physician’s Formula The Healthy Foundation in DN3

This foundation is amazing and I really wish there were a whole lot more option with the shade range. I know some many girls who would benefit from this product, but can’t because of the limited shade available.

Physician’s Formula The Healthy Foundation is the foundation I’ve always wanted to own but I knew the chances of it being in my actual shade…well yeah.

Turns out they actual did have my shade. Oddly enough, it’s classified as a deep neutral…umm sure.

Nonetheless, I can’t hate on the actual product because it’s my actual skin colour. It’s full off vitamins, antioxidants and hyaluronic acid, which is great for my skin.

Perfect for me, since I’m old and I secretly love being carded at the liquor store.

It’s also available everywhere, so I don’t have go to a special store to get it.

Kat Von D True Portrait foundation in Tan 066

Last but not least, Kat Von D True Portrait liquid foundation.

Now this gem is amazing. This is the foundation that makes my skin look like my skin but if you didn’t know me you’d swear my skin was flawless. It does that.

It’s a liquid foundation that gives a powder finish, so of course it leaves your skin matte.

What I love most about this foundation is that I don’t need a primer to use. I just use a hydrating moisturizer on my skin and then I apply my foundation to start my make up routine.

It’s vegan, cruelty-free and a little bit goes a long way. So yea, it’s worth the coin.

So that’s my list. I hope you enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed raving about them.

What’s on your list?

NYX “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop” Liquid Foundation Review + IG GIVEAWAY!!!

20181003_232132-011599267018.jpegLately, I’ve heard so many things regarding the NYX partnership between youtuber Alyssa Ashley. In a world where diversity is often talked about but seldom executed it was refreshing to see a drug store brand release 45 shades of liquid foundation. I was so happy because I remember a few years ago, walking into a drugstore and so many times I could not find my shade. I had to spent at least $30 to find a good foundation match. Do you know what else $30 can buy when you are a broke student trying to get a degree? Food! So yeah!

But over the years the shade range present and represented in drug store cosmetic had increased. Not by much…but it was better than it was 10 years ago. However it still bothered me that my little sister who is at least three shades darker was unable to find a good drugstore foundation match. This was disheartening to see, my other sister and I could find a match but my baby sister could not…

This is why I was so excited when NYX and Alyssa Ashley got together to release 45 shades of drugstore liquid foundation. Finally my baby sister could find her shade, without ever stepping foot into a high end cosmetic boutique. Believe me for a 16 year old, this is very important. Especially, when you can’t justify buying a $30+ foundation to your Haitian mother who happens to be working too hard to begin with…

Now NYX “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop” liquid foundation promises:

  • non-comedogenic
  • waterproof
  • 24hour wear
  • matte finish
  • lightweight
  • pigmented
  • controls shine
  • doesn’t transfer
  • suitable for normal, oily, combination and sensitive skin types

This definitely sounds too good to be true for a drugstore foundation! So I decided to put it to the test. Check out my video to see my impression of it.

La Roche-Posay Serozinc Review

Welcome back! I’m so glad to see you here. I have been trying new things and I’m so excited to share with you my thoughts on them. The thoughts expressed are completely my own (I bought it with my own money so…yeah).

Sit back, relax and enjoy the tea!

Lately my face has been a bit of a rebel. I wasn’t sure what was going on. I thought it could to be hormonal but this was out of the ordinary. Was I not drinking enough water? Was I sweating too much? Was my pillow case too dirty? Was I pregnant???

Although, I could start boosting my water intake, change my pillow case more often (I’m a mother, do not judge me) but no! I’m not pregnant.

My skin was telling me something was wrong. It needed something and it was my job to figure it out and provide.

That’s when I discovered La Roche-Posay Serozinc.

I had run out of my Effaclar Mat moisturizer and needed to replenish my stock. When I went to the store I happened to see that Serozinc was there as well. I didn’t think too much of it. What caught my eye is that, it came as a gift with purchase. So I thought, free?!? why not?

Well it didn’t take long before I fell in love with it.

20180902_120705-011501798927.jpegI had to research it’s usage, because to be honest. I didn’t know anything about it.

Is it a facial mist? Is it a toner? Is it an over priced spray bottle designed to bleed me financially dry instead of making my life easier?

According to the La Roche-Posay site it’s a toner. All you have to do is wash your face, spray your face with the mist, let it dry and moisturize.

Easy. Peasy.

This is most definitely the simplest toner I have ever used. No mess. No cotton balls to throw out. No wet fingers. Just spray, let it dry and keep it moving.

I’ve been using it for about  a week now. This is what I’ve noticed:)

  • My skin is clearer. The breakouts have diminished. No more painful pimples, or as I like to say, “I don’t look like I’m stuck in puberty!”
  • No more flakiness. For awhile, my skin was peeling. I was applying sunscreen(…some times). I couldn’t understand why my skin was throwing this tantrum. Clearly it needed to be soothed.
  • Smoother skin. A blank, smooth canvas makes for a great made up face. A great face makes a great confidence booster.
  • Mattified and hydrated skin. I didn’t know that combination existed but as I get older I know my skin will need to stay hydrated. It’s hard to do when you have combination/oily skin. But this has helped greatly.

This is available at most drug stores and department stores in Canada. I picked mine up at my local Rexall. Most of the time, it goes on sale there. Boom, more bang for my buck!

Have you tried this toner yet? How do you like it? Let me know in the comments below. I can’t wait to hear from you in the comments.
