A Kid-Free Weekend in Quebec City: Celebrating 10 Years of Love and Little Escapes

After ten years of marriage, three beautiful children, and a whole lot of life in between, my husband and I finally did something we hadn’t done in far too long—we took a kid-free getaway. And let me tell you: it was everything we needed and more.

This special trip was in anticipation of our 10-year wedding anniversary, and it came together so perfectly, I couldn’t keep it to myself. From the seamless flight with Porter Airlines, to the breathtaking charm of Old Quebec City, this was the kind of weekend that fills your cup—and then some.

Flying with Porter Airlines: A Dream Start

We were incredibly grateful to be gifted our flights by Porter Airlines, and I have to say… I am officially a fan. From the moment I started booking, everything was straightforward and stress-free. Their website was intuitive, and the flight times were perfect for a weekend escape.

And once we boarded? Comfort. Cleanliness. Friendly service. Plus, complimentary drinks and snacks—yes, even wine and beer, which felt like a treat in the sky. It set the tone for a weekend that was all about slowing down and enjoying every moment.

Our Stay: Palace Royal Hotel

We stayed at the Palace Royal Hotel, a cozy and welcoming spot located right near Old Quebec. The location was ideal—we could walk almost everywhere, which we happily did. Every morning started with a buffet-style breakfast at the hotel: fresh fruit, eggs, pastries, and coffee that actually helped you function (parents, you know what I mean).

One of my favorite moments was simply taking a swim in the hotel’s indoor pool. That quiet time, floating and breathing, was exactly what I didn’t realize I needed.

Exploring Old Quebec

If you’ve never been to Old Quebec City, put it on your list. Cobblestone streets, European charm, and that perfect mix of historic and romantic—it’s like stepping into another world. We walked a lot, stopping at boutiques, snapping photos, and taking it all in.

And let’s talk food.

Where We Ate (and Ate and Ate)

We treated ourselves, and it was worth every bite.

  • Le Cochon Dingue served up comforting, delicious Québécois cuisine in the coziest atmosphere.
  • Sam’s Bistro at the famous Fairmont Le Château Frontenac offered gorgeous views, rich food, and a lovely wine list. It was one of those meals you don’t rush through—you savour it.
  • And at Shaker Cuisine & Mixologie, we went all in on burgers, cocktails, and fun. It was laid-back, vibrant, and full of flavour.

Every meal felt like a celebration, and honestly, after years of quick bites between parenting duties, it felt so luxurious to just sit and enjoy.

A Much-Needed Reset

This weekend away was more than just a vacation—it was a reset. A reminder of the couple we were before kids, and the team we’ve become since. I came home feeling lighter, more connected, and recharged in a way I didn’t know I needed.

If you’ve been thinking about taking that trip—do it. Book the sitter, plan the flights, carve out the time. Your relationship, your mental health, and your heart will thank you for it.

And if you’re flying, trust me—Porter Airlines is the way to go. Thank you, Porter, for getting us there in style.

Here’s to love, adventure, and little escapes that keep us grounded.
