Back in 2020, when the world suddenly shut down, I found myself staring at the unknown. Like many parents, I had no idea what the future of education would look like. Schools were closed indefinitely, and everything felt uncertain. At the time, my oldest daughter was only three—but she could already read, and I knew deep down that sticking her in front of a laptop for an entire school day just wasn’t going to work.

We weren’t making a lot of money back then, and I didn’t have access to expensive curriculums or private tutors. I tried looking online for help, but most of what I found was American-based and didn’t reflect our Canadian education system or values. It was incredibly lonely and overwhelming. I didn’t know where to start. But I knew one thing for sure: I didn’t want to stifle my daughter’s natural curiosity. I wanted to nurture it.
So, I did what I could with what I had.

Homeschooling Isn’t About Having It All Together—It’s About Growing Together
I started piecing things together using free online resources, public library books, printable worksheets, and a whole lot of trial and error. I followed my daughter’s interests, asked her questions, and watched her lead the way. Over time, I realized something powerful—homeschooling wasn’t about replicating the classroom experience at home. It was about creating an environment where my child felt safe, supported, and inspired to learn.
