I recently had the opportunity to try the Moroccanoil Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner as part of a PR package. Given the brand’s reputation for luxurious hair care infused with argan oil, I had high expectations for these products. Unfortunately, they did not live up to the hype for my hair needs. Here’s a detailed breakdown of my experience.

Packaging
Moroccanoil’s signature teal-colored bottles with bright orange accents are visually appealing and instantly recognizable. The bottles are sleek and sturdy, but they use a hard plastic material that can make it difficult to squeeze out product—especially as you near the bottom. Additionally, the flip-top caps, while functional, can sometimes get clogged with product buildup over time.
Fragrance

The fragrance is a standout feature of Moroccanoil products. It has the brand’s signature scent—an intoxicating blend of amber, musk, and floral notes. It gives off a spa-like experience in the shower, which I really appreciated. However, the fragrance is quite strong and lingers in the hair for hours, which might not be ideal for those sensitive to scented products.
Texture & Application
- Shampoo: The texture of the shampoo is creamy yet slightly runny. It lathers decently but requires a generous amount to feel like it’s thoroughly cleansing the scalp and hair.
- Conditioner: The conditioner has a thicker, creamier consistency, which I expected would provide a deeply hydrating experience. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case.
Performance & Displeasure
Despite being marketed as hydrating, I found that both the shampoo and conditioner fell short in delivering lasting moisture for my hair.
- Shampoo: While it cleanses without feeling overly stripping, it also doesn’t provide much hydration. I noticed that my hair felt slightly coated rather than nourished, and it lacked the softness I expect from a moisturizing shampoo.
- Conditioner: This was the biggest letdown. It felt like it sat on top of my hair rather than penetrating the strands. There was little to no slip, making detangling a struggle. My hair felt underwhelmed and lacked the bounce and hydration I typically get from richer conditioners like those from SheaMoisture or Carol’s Daughter. After rinsing, my hair felt almost waxy rather than silky smooth.

For reference, I have naturally curly hair that leans dry, so I need products that provide deep moisture and manageability. This duo just didn’t deliver on those fronts.
Price Point & Where to Purchase
Moroccanoil is positioned as a high-end haircare brand, and the pricing reflects that. The Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner retail for approximately $34 CAD each for the standard 250ml bottle. Considering the performance, I personally do not find them worth the price.
You can purchase Moroccanoil products at Sephora, Shoppers Drug Mart, salons, and online through the Moroccanoil website or Amazon.
Who Would Benefit from This Line?
While this shampoo and conditioner didn’t work for me, they may be better suited for those with fine to medium hair that needs a light hydration boost. If you have very dry, thick, or curly hair in need of deep moisture, you might find these products lacking.
Final Thoughts
The Moroccanoil Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner smell amazing and come in aesthetically pleasing packaging, but unfortunately, the performance was underwhelming. The shampoo didn’t provide the level of hydration I hoped for, and the conditioner lacked the slip and moisture my hair craves. At this price point, there are far better options for dry or curly hair that truly deliver on hydration and nourishment. I wouldn’t repurchase these products, but they could work for someone with finer, less demanding hair.
