I began my homeschooling journey in 2020 with my eldest daughter during the height of the pandemic. At the time, I wasn’t sure if schools would reopen, and I had no idea where to start or what resources to use. My husband and I, working with a limited income, used whatever we had to teach our three-year-old to read and foster a love of learning. We relied on library books, free online resources, and lots of patience. As time went on, I started purchasing workbooks on Amazon, creating a structured learning environment at home. Now, five years later, I’m homeschooling all three of my daughters, and this journey has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

If you’re considering homeschooling your child, you’re not alone. Many parents find themselves drawn to the idea of personalized education but feel uncertain about where to start. The most important first step is identifying why you want to homeschool. Whether it’s to provide a flexible learning environment, focus on specific values, or better support your child’s unique needs, having a clear purpose will guide your journey.

Homeschooling is not about replicating a traditional classroom at home—it’s about learning together. As a parent, you don’t need to have all the answers; instead, think of this as an opportunity to grow alongside your child. You’ll discover their interests, adapt to their learning style, and create an education that is meaningful and engaging for both of you. The beauty of homeschooling is that it allows for creativity, curiosity, and a pace that truly fits your family’s lifestyle.
And remember, you don’t have to do it alone. There are countless resources available to help support your homeschooling journey. Local co-ops, support groups, and online communities can provide guidance, curriculum ideas, and even social opportunities for both parents and children. Whether you choose to join a homeschool network, attend community workshops, or collaborate with other families, there is a wealth of support waiting for you.
To help you get started, I’ll be providing a free homeschool checklist for all parents beginning their journey. This checklist will give you the essential steps, resources, and encouragement you need to feel confident in taking the first steps toward homeschooling.
